Area and Food Chain Fun!

Good Morning!

It has been a long week and it's only Wednesday! Oh well, it has been long but it has been fun!

This week we are working on Area in math. I shared one of the activities here. Yesterday we created pictures and figured the area of our pictures. Today we created stained glass windows. First I started calling out areas and they created shapes that had that area. After doing that for half the page I told them to finish the page with their own shapes and write the area of that shape. Here are some pictures of our area fun!

 We are also studying Food Chains in Science this week! Here are some the great technology resources that we are using this week to investigate food chains! The kids absolutely love the videos, but the game is their favorite!

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday everyone! Is anyone else overwhelmed with all the things you have to do for the end of the year? I know I am! 

This week we are working on Area in math! Today I borrowed a great idea from one of my sweet teacher friends, Mrs. Elmore! We created a foldable where I gave the students the area of a shape and they had  to create a shape that was that area! They loved it and it was so simple. I used my basic foldable template! You can get it here, and it's free! Then I gave each student a page of graph paper. They colored the area in and cut it out and glued! Here is a couple of examples!

For homework this week they will be creating stained glass windows in power point and figuring the area! They have loved doing the measurement power points the last couple weeks! Click on the link below to download a copy!

Writing

Good Morning!

I hope everyone is having a GREAT Wednesday! 

Today we are working on our end of the year writing sample. Does anyone else get frustrated when their kids just rush through it when you can't help them? I do! Most of the time they are such good writers, but whenever we do an independent writing sample it's like all the good writing habits disappear! Well anyways, I stopped them and we are going to try writing again this afternoon. I am pulling out the draft mat we used at the beginning of the year to organize their thinking! I think it will help. I HOPE IT WILL HELP!

On a personal note, Mr. Prater got a NEW job this week! He is working at Sam's Club now and absolutely loves it! So thankful for God's blessings in our lives!

Today is my Daddy's birthday! I am so thankful that I have such a loving and caring dad that is always there for me NO MATTER WHAT! When I was a little girl my dad used to sing "Waltz Across Texas" to put me to sleep, on my wedding day that is the song we 2-stepped to! Dad, thank you for always being there and bringing our family to Texas where we have been so blessed and where I met my husband! I will forever be your baby girl and will love you forever!

I've Missed You!

Good Morning!

Wow, has it been a week! I can't believe I haven't blogged since Thursday! It has been a wild few days! I am going to try to catch up and let everyone know what has been happening!

Wednesday was Animal Day for our ABC Countdown. I wrote about it here, but wanted to show you a couple pictures of them measuring!

Thursday was Beach Day! They got to bring beach towels and sunglasses to read outside! But, as those of you in Texas know, it was CRAZY cold that day! :( So we improvised and read in the classroom, they had soooo much fun and stayed focused for 25 minutes (which is unheard of)!

Friday was our Career Day! It was SO much fun! They got to listen to several speakers and they got to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up! This was my favorite part of the day! They were super cute and really got into it!

I also loved that at recess my spies, FBI agent, and Presidents were all playing protect the President! It was absolutely adorable!

It is Teacher Appreciation Week! I just have to say how much I appreciate each and every one of you! You all make such a difference in the lives of your kiddos and you make a difference in my life as well! With that said, it is only Tuesday and I feel so appreciated which is GREAT!

Yesterday I walked into this beautiful bulletin board and bag from my room mom and PTA!

When I went to get coffee in the teacher's lounge our PTA had setup a School Supply Bar! We got to get a bag and fill it with goodies! What teacher doesn't LOVE school supplies!

My sweet kids came into my room wearing lime green and blue, my two favorite colors! And what made it even better they were so proud of themselves and excited to be wearing them!

This morning RaceTrac set up a coffee bar for the teachers! Good Morning! Then my kids walked in with snacks and my favorite drinks!

My team and I get to go to an extra long lunch OFF CAMPUS today while our parents cover lunch and recess with our classes!

Hope everyone had a great day today! I am so glad tomorrow is Friday! Is it just me or was this a really long week?

Tomorrow is Career Day for us tomorrow and the kids are sooooo excited! I am looking forward to seeing them dressed up in the Sunday best or as what they want to be when they grow up! Can't wait to see them!

Welcome May!

Happy May 1st! I can't believe that it is already May 1st! Only 26 more days till the end of school! It is so hard  to believe. I am truly excited for the summer, but sure will miss this class! We have had a blast this year.

Today started our ABC Countdown to the End of the Year! Today was animal day! It is always to see them with their favorite stuffed animals. Brings back great memories of my childhood and my favorite stuffed animals. 

We had so much fun with our animals today. We measured them with linking cubes and then we measured other animals with our inch tile rulers we made yesterday, check it out here. They absolutely loved this activity from Cuddle Bugs Teaching. It is a great Freebie, click on the picture to go check it out!
